Allgemeine Fragen

Of course, every rider decides for themselves which tire pressure is the right one. As the thermoplastic polyurethane behaves somewhat differently than a classic butyl rubber due to the material, we recommend lowering the tire pressure by around 0.1-0.3 bar compared to the usual pressure. This creates a lot of grip and harmonious rolling of the tire, especially on MTBs.

The maximum permissible pressure for REVOLOOP bicycle inner tubes does not depend on the inner tube itself, but on the inner tube itself. The pressure specified on the inner tube should not be exceeded or undercut in order to avoid damage.

IMPORTANT: Please never fill your REVOLOOP hose with a pressure above 0.5 bar outside the casing. Otherwise there is a risk that the REVOLOOPs will overstretch locally or even burst. Both scenarios mean that the hose is subsequently unusable, as the overstretching of the hose does not deform again and the hose can therefore no longer be fitted. Therefore: REVOLOOP hoses should only be pressurized to over 0.5 bar when fully assembled.

REVOLOOP.fat: Please do not inflate the REVOLOOP.fat in a circle outside the cover, as this can also lead to overstretching. In addition, the REVOLOOP.fat should not be "pumped up" above 0.2 bar outside the casing.

Yes, the valve inserts on the REVOLOOPs are screwed in and can be removed or tightened if necessary, should a leak occur at this point.

We recommend the use of disc brakes, as the material is slightly less thermally resilient than a classic butyl tube. We therefore do not provide approval for rim brakes. However, if the material is thermally overloaded in extreme braking situations, the air does not suddenly escape from the tube with a bang.

Sealing milk does not have a sealing effect on REVOLOOPs, as is known from butyl. However, REVOLOOP bicycle inner tubes can be used without any problems in coats with sealing milk (e.g. as a replacement inner tube in the event of a puncture), as all the types of sealing milk we have tested so far do not attack or damage the TPU material of REVOLOOPs.

Yes, REVOLOOP bicycle inner tubes can be inflated using CO2 cartridges.

Yes, REVOLOOPs can be easily repaired with our repair kit. It is important that the area around the hole in the inner tube is thoroughly cleaned beforehand with one of the alcohol wipes supplied. Then press the patch onto the defective area, wait briefly and reinstall the tube. The repaired REVOLOOP tube can then be immediately pressurized to the desired pressure. Classic patch kits for patching butyl tubes cannot be used on TPU products.

REVOLOOP bicycle inner tubes are available for tire widths from 23 mm (road bike) to 125 mm (fat bike). Only for plus-size tires (2.6"-3") do we not yet have a suitable tube on the market. But we are working on it.

The products

Our REVOLOOPs are now available in almost all common tire sizes and dimensions. If you notice that we have forgotten an important size, we would be very grateful if you could let us know.

We offer our REVOLOOP hoses in valve lengths of 40 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm and soon also in 100 mm.

No. A TPU tube is generally somewhat less elastic than a classic butyl tube. In particular, TPU does not fully return to its original shape after inflation in the tire, but retains a certain plastic elongation. For this reason, a TPU tube that has been installed in the tire should not subsequently be installed in a SMALLER tire or casing. However, it is not a problem to install it in the same tire or a larger derivative.

No. Talcum powder is not necessary when fitting TPU tubes.

Yes, REVOLOOP valves are injection-molded components with an internal thread made of high-strength TPU. This means that the valve core can be removed (unscrewed) and a valve extension can also be installed.

The material

A very clear YES. We only use thermoplastic polyurethanes from German production of the highest quality for our production. The simple reason for this is that alternative plastics do not offer the same performance in terms of mechanical strength and flexibility. TPU materials are complex to process, but the result always justifies the effort. And that is why we will continue to process only TPUs of the highest material classes in the future.

Co-extrusion allows us to combine different TPU materials in multi-layer tube products. Despite a very thin wall thickness of just 150 micrometers to approx. 300 micrometers (depending on the tube type and variant), all our tubes consist of up to seven layers of material. We combine very soft material types for low rolling resistance with very tough variants for high puncture resistance. Multilayer technology is far from exhausted and offers great potential for future developments.

If the white/opaque inner tube has been fitted in the casing for a while and is then removed again, you can see how it has turned a light brownish color. This coloration results from the diffusion of soot particles from the rubber of the tire into the outer layer of the REVOLOOP tube. However, this color transition does not change the technical properties of the REVOLOOP and is only an optical change. The product can still be used without any restrictions.

Sustainability

TPU as a material has the nice property that it can not only be used once (like many other types of plastic), but can be melted and reused several times. This gives us the opportunity to recycle a product at the end of its service life or in the event of an irreparable defect. At REVOLOOP, we are currently developing a digital platform that will enable us to retrieve all the products we introduce into the economic cycle in the end-of-life scenario and recycle them a second or even third time.

In addition, the lower weight of a REVOLOOP product compared to a classic butyl tube alone is a decisive factor in the life cycle assessment. Because every kilogram of material that is NOT processed protects the environment more than any responsibly managed process :)

All of our processes at REVOLOOP are consistently designed for sustainable production. Starting with the fact that we do not dispose of production waste as a matter of principle, but instead completely recycle it and then feed it back into the production process, through to sustainable packaging made from recycled materials. We operate all machines and systems with maximum efficiency and work closely with the NRW Efficiency Agency, for example, which advises and supports us in many of our activities.
